Forest Recovery Canada – Forest Restoration for a Healthier Future
Forest Recovery Canada (FRC) is a national tree planting program, administered by Trees Ontario, the largest not-for-profit tree planting partnership in North America.
Trees Ontario’s tree planting efforts have previously focused on rural and urban landscapes across Ontario. The Forest Recovery Canada program expands these extensive and successful provincial tree planting activities to include Canada-wide rural and urban forest restoration initiatives.
Current forest fragmentation across the country contributes to an unstable ecosystem, habitat loss, and environmental degradation. Increasing forest cover will enhance the resiliency of our ecosystems in adapting to the effects of environmental change while sustaining a healthier human population.
FRC fosters collaborative partnerships with like-minded organizations committed to enhancing the health of Canada’s ecosystems through forest establishment and management.
How does it work?
• FRC provides local tree planting agencies with promotional networking opportunities to execute tree planting, share forest restoration expertise and channel resources throughout Canada.
• FRC coordinates the logistics of tree plantings across the country and manages funding and accountability – this ensures fair compensation for partners and higher survival rates for trees planted.
• Local planting agencies work directly with landowners to determine site eligibility for the program and coordinate tree planting efforts.
What makes our program different?
Through the development of an extensive network of agencies and organizations, the FRC program delivers large-scale tree planting initiatives that promote the use and application of scientifically-based forestry practices for forest establishment and management. FRC acts as a bridge between scientists and the on-the-ground program delivery agents.
