The tree planting follows up on the September 3 partnership announcement between Sun Media/ Canoe.ca and Trees Ontario.

On this sunny September morning, Sun Media and Canoe.ca staff broke into teams and were briefed by Trees Ontario forestry experts on how to properly plant a tree. They then quickly saw to it that the 100 red oak, black cherry, large tooth aspen and white cedar were planted properly and given a new home. This planting augments the greening of a section of Rouge Park in Markham alongside 100 trees planted earlier this year.

Staff members were keen to better understand the value of trees, and how a good initial planting helps secure a healthy tree for the future. Many expressed interest in knowing how the trees do as they mature, and were looking for more trees to plant!

Also in attendance were Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP Oak Ridges-Markham and Alan Wells, Chair of the Rouge Park Alliance. Both expressed their thanks to all involved for their efforts in the continued greening of Rouge Park, North America’s largest urban park.
