Boost for Quinte Tree Planting

May 2007 – The Trees Ontario Foundation (TOF) is assisting environmental agencies in the Quinte region which have launched a new program to provide tree planting services to landowners. Key to the success of this year’s program was the use of two machine planters refurbished by TOF. The planters had been idle and in a state of disrepair for a number of years. After TOF repaired and painted them, the planters were returned to active service. They are performing exceptionally well and will boost tree planting survival and planting production for years to come.

TOF also assisted Quinte Conservation, in partnership with the Hastings County and Prince Edward County Stewardship Councils, in the planting of 45,000 trees. Landowners who qualified for assistance had their costs reduced by fifty cents per tree through the TOF Tree Planting Initiative. This incentive program is delivered to land owners in Ontario through local planting agencies which in most cases are conservation authorities. Typically, landowners will experience a savings of several hundred dollars per acre on a planting project.

Before: Inoperable, an old tree planter sits idle and in need of serious repair.
