Trees Ontario Green Streets Funding Helps the
City of Brantford Plant 80 New Trees

Brantford - January 15, 2009 – Citizens of Brantford, Ontario will now be able to enjoy 80 new trees which were planted along the Wayne Gretzky Parkway and in John Wright Park, thanks to funding provided by Trees Ontario as part of Tree Canada's 2009 Green Streets Program.

Ed Borczon, Trees Ontario forestry expert attended the official Green Streets presentation on January 15, 2009 at John Wright Park in Brantford, where he expressed how pleased Trees Ontario is to be partnering with Tree Canada and the City of Brantford on this urban tree initiative. The presentation recognized the efforts and contributions made from the partner organizations as part of the Green Streets grant, which in all will help to further beautify and green Brantford's Wayne Gretzky Parkway and John Wright Park.

Green Streets Canada is the flagship program of Tree Canada and is the country's only national urban forest innovation initiative. It rewards municipalities that have gone beyond the call of duty and have recognized the importance of ensuring the survival of trees in their urban communities. More than 370 municipalities have participated in the Green Streets program since its inception.

This public development is an important part of Trees Ontario's commitment to work with municipalities and tree planting agencies across the province to rebuild Ontario's tree planting capacity. With its partners, Trees Ontario is helping to plant more than 3 million trees in Ontario each year.

The effort made by the City of Brantford to beautify and green Wayne Gretzky Parkway and John Wright Park, is an excellent example of how we can all contribute to further developing our urban and rural forests.

Trees Ontario is a very proud partner with Tree Canada in this project, and again congratulates the City of Brantford and Tree Canada on their efforts.
