Trees Ontario: Trees Ontario's former Board of Trustees Member honoured by the Ontario Professional Foresters Association

June 20, 2011 - Anne Koven, former Trees Ontario Board of Trustees Member and Secretary Treasurer, was amongst a handful of award winners honoured by the Ontario Professional Foresters Association at their Annual General Meeting held recently in Timmins, Ontario.

Mrs. Koven received the Bayly Award, named after G.H.U. “Terk” Bayly. Although a graduate of forestry and a significant influence in the field of forestry, Bayly was not a member of the OPFA The Bayly award recognizes contributions to the profession and practice of forestry by someone who is not a member.

Mrs. Koven’s involvement with the environment is long-standing; her visible involvement with forestry began as a member, then Chair, of the panel hearing Class Environmental Assessment which still defines the core of Forest Management on Crown Land throughout the Area of the Undertaking. After months of hearings and authoring the report, she took on roles as Chair and temporary Executive Director of the Ontario Forestry Association and Board Member of the Tree Ontario Foundation. She is currently also working on a Doctorate in Forestry, focused on policy but supplemented by courses in Haida Gwai and South America. Ms. Koven is Chair of the Urban Forestry Committee and also serves on the Discipline Committee of the OPFA.

Under the Professional Foresters Act, Ms. Koven cannot be a member of the OPFA and also serve as a Public Member of the OPFA Council. However, Council has decided when her term on Council ends later this year she will also become the fifth Honourary Member of OPFA.

Trees Ontario bid farewell to Mrs. Koven at its recent Annual General Meeting held in June 2011. Anne Koven was a valued member of the organization with over 10 years of contribution to Trees Ontario's growth and development.
