Trees Ontario Hosts Free Soils Workshops
This Fall
Summer 2008, Southern Ontario - Trees Ontario's goal is to help revitalize tree planting efforts on private land throughout southern Ontario.
Alongside choosing the right species to plant, and where they will go, soil conditions are essential to a successful plantation establishment.
Trees Ontario invites its planting agencies and partners to join one of two day-long soils workshops in September 2008. This is a great chance to build your skills and knowledge in soil assessment.
At the workshop you will:
- Work with Trees Ontario field advisors and local soils experts
- Gain a practical overview of soil properties through classroom and field instruction and group input
- Learn how to determine soil texture class, soil drainage and other site conditions when selecting tree species for planting
- Perform on-site soil tests
- Receive a workbook with tools and forms for application in your area
- Meet other Trees Ontario planting agency and partner contacts
Please dress appropriately for field work and for fall conditions.
If you have a copy of the Ontario Institute of Pedology Field Manual for Describing Soils in Ontario and/or the Guide to Tree Species Suitability, please bring it along.
A light lunch will be provided.
