Ontario Tree Seed Zone Map

Planting the right tree seed in the right seed zone is critical to tree species growth success and survival. The appropriate seed varies from area to area and is dependent on many things, such as geographic location, soil conditions and temperature. Click here to view the Ontario Tree Seed Zone Map to see what seed zone your property falls in.

You can determine what tree species are best suited for your seed zone by visiting the Forest Gene Conservation Association website.

Species and Stock Selection Manual

The electronic file of the ‘Species and Stock Selection Manual’ was provided to Trees Ontario by the Ministry of Natural Resources. The manual presents an overview of the operational procedures involved in Ontario’s artificial regeneration program. It is intended for a general audience that has a basic understanding of forestry operations and terminology. The manual covers 6 main topics: seed considerations, types of nursery stock, selection of
nursery stock, ordering seedlings, handling and care of planting stock, and monitoring the
health of seedlings. Click here to view the Species and Stock Selection Manual.

This graph shows the tree planting history on private lands in southern Ontario. The red dotted line indicates when Trees Ontario started its tree planting programs. Our goal is to support the planting of 10 million trees a year by 2015.
