Trees Ontario has seven designated Field Advisors who are forestry experts with many years of technical tree planting experience. These individuals are a resource of information for planting agencies and landowners, as they can provide assistance and answers to your forestry related questions.

Ron Thayer


Ron started his career in the Algonquin Park area in Private Industry with pitstops along the way, including working over 30 years with Lands & Forests, focusing mainly in Forest Renewal Nursery and Seeds and the Ontario Stewardship Program.

Ron's innovative & creative qualities are brought forth in his love of Education and sharing his knowledge and experience with people on all aspects of Resource Management.  

Ron is now a Resource Consultant with his company Forests For You and as a technical advisor with Trees Ontario.

Adam Zulinski


Adam is a graduate of Fleming College with a fish and wildlife diploma. He started out his career in 1979 working for the Ministry of Natural Resources in fish and wildlife and then moved into forestry. He then went on to work in the private sector working for Domtar in the Eastern Ontario region for 20 years in their reforestation projects. He has extensive field experience in silvicultural operations, especially in the establishment of hybrid poplars, hardwood and conifer plantations.

Greg W Greer


Greg worked for Lands & Forests & Ministry of Natural Resources for 30 years with stopovers in such places as Chapleau and Peterborough. Mainly involved in forestry programs (tree planting, tree marking, etc.), he also oversaw an annual tree planting program of one million trees in Dufferin County from 1974 to 1982.  Greg started his own forestry consulting business (GWG Resources Services) in 1997 before leaving the ministry in 1998.

Donald Gummer


Don attended the Ontario Forest Ranger School in 1966 and worked in Dryden for the original Lands and Forests from 1967 until 1973 as a Timber Technician.  He transferred to Wawa as Forest Operations Manager in 1973, supervising Site Preparation, Tree Planting, Wood Measurement and Cut Inspections. Don moved to Huronia District in 1984 as Forest Operations Manager, whose responsibilities included supervising the Private Land Owners Program. Don retired from the Huronia District in 1996. He has worked as a Forestry consultant for the last 12 years.

Scott Brown

 
Scott graduated from the Sir Sandford Fleming College forestry program. For the next 15 years he went on to work for a large Canadian forestry company. Five years ago Scott started his own consulting business in south eastern Ontario. He specializes in forestry management of hardwoods and conifers on both private and crown land.  He is a current member of the OPFA and during his career has been involved in the planting of over 1 million trees.

Ed Borczon


Ed is Registered Professional Forester with 30 years of resource management experience with the Ministry of Natural Resources.  He is currently a forestry consultant as well as an educator teaching woodlot management courses at the School of Continuing Studies, University of Toronto.

Tim Gray

Tim is a graduate of Fleming College in Lindsay with diplomas in forestry and fish and wildlife. He worked in forest management for 29 years with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources where he has acquired extensive field experience in silvicultural operations in the Boreal, Great Lakes St. Lawrence and Deciduous forest regions. Tim holds a number of licences and certifications that support forest management activities and was a compliance inspector on Crown forest harvesting operations in central Ontario. He provided forest management and tree planting advice to hundreds of landowners as Operations Coordinator for Trees Ontario before retiring in February 2009.  He is now Field Advisor for Eastern Ontario.

Glenn McLeod


Glenn holds a forest technician diploma from Sir Sanford Fleming College and a Bachelor of Science in Forestry from Lakehead University. He has been a Registered Professional Forester with the Ontario Professional Foresters Association (OPFA) since 1978. His work with tree nurseries spans across the province and includes past MNR nurseries in St. Williams, Midhurst and Swastika. He was also superintendent of the Orono Provincial Forest Station and most recently, Glenn held the position as Stewardship Coordinator with the Northumberland Stewardship Council. He has also worked with the MNR Research Branch in the area of tree improvement.

Currently, Glenn is a member of the Ontario Forestry Association, The Ontario Federation of Agriculture and is a board member of a number of community organizations.
