Welcome to Trees Ontario

Trees Ontario is a not-for-profit organization committed to the re-greening of Ontario through tree planting efforts on rural lands and in urban areas.

In the 1980s, planting levels were as high as 20-30 million trees per year on private rural properties in southern Ontario. In the 1990s, that number declined, primarily because of government cutbacks, to as low as 2 million trees per year.

Trees Ontario's objective is to help its tree planting partners move that number back up to the levels required. Environmental experts say that in order to achieve a healthy ecosystem of 30% forest cover, we need to plant one billion more trees.

Since 2004, Trees Ontario and its 65 provincial partners have planted over 13 million trees across the province. Our goal is to increase this support to 10 million trees a year by 2015.

Trees Ontario promotes scientifically-based tree planting and forestry practices. We provide financial and practical assistance to Ontario landowners who plant trees on their property, and we draw on the expertise of our partners to ensure that the tree planting initiatives we support benefit the health of the entire forest ecosystem, matching the appropriate species to the local planting site conditions.

Trees Ontario works with 65+ planting agency partners across the province to deliver its programs, and is supported by contributions and donations from corporate partners, small businesses, individuals and government.
